ABOUT US

My name is Claudio Gomez and I was born in Chile. After leaving school I studied for a B.Sc. followed by an M.Sc. in Ecology. Back in 2006, I did my thesis comparing the geo-morphology of rivers planted in pines compared to those in native plantings.

After my degree, I continued this work for the University accumulating data to further my knowledge and build a more robust practical picture. I moved to Gisborne in 2015 for great surfing and in pursuit of my passion to expand the restoration of farmlands with a greater focus on native plantings.

After growing trees for three years at the local native nursery, I branched out and started Native Concepts Ltd to take a more active role in promoting native plantations across the Gisborne-Tairawhiti and East Coast region. In the last three years, I have assembled a great support team and we have undertaken a wide range of native plantings on farmlands and absorbed a lot of knowledge of the eco-challenges that are being faced by farmers.

I’m truly committed to making a positive difference in the ecology of farmlands and waterways and working closely with all those who share my passion to make a sustainable difference.

MISSION

At Native Concepts, our mission is to restore natural ecosystems and promote biodiversity through the establishment of native plants. With native plantings, we can protect and enhance the natural beauty and resilience of our environment while providing a habitat for local birds and wildlife. We are committed to working with our clients to plan, design and plant native landscapes that are fit for purpose. Through education and farm discussion groups we strive to inspire our farming community to join us in our efforts to promote the sustainable conservation of our land and natural resources.
